About Me

My professional life started with words. I grew up loving books, and after college I was thrilled to land my first job at a glossy magazine — an early lesson in deadlines, clarity, and storytelling.

A few years later, I moved to London and worked for an in-house publisher, where I collaborated with organizations like the BBC and gained an international perspective on publishing and communication.

When I returned to Washington, DC, I worked for several major publishers, including Island Press, where I served as Managing Editor, and the American Psychological Association, where I was a Development Editor for their book program.

Over time, I transitioned into marketing and then into web communications, helping build APA’s website into a platform serving millions of visitors each year.

Along the way, I discovered that my strengths weren’t just in editing or design, but in seeing how everything fits together—content, visuals, structure, and audience.

Today, I bring that full arc of experience to my work with small nonprofits and businesses. I know how organizations operate, where communication projects tend to get stuck, and how to move them forward without making things more complicated than they need to be.

Beyond the work

I’ve lived in the DC area for over 30 years and feel deeply connected to the community here. Outside of work, I love cooking, hiking in Rock Creek Park, going to jazz concerts, and exploring new restaurants.

Those interests reflect how I approach my professional life too: with curiosity, care, and a belief that good experiences — like good communication — are built thoughtfully.

If you’re looking for someone experienced, steady, and genuinely invested in seeing you prosper, I’d be happy to work with you.

My Toolbox Is Full

Over 25 years I've honed my skills across various media. I've been a scholarly book editor, a graphic designer, and even managed a website with 30,000 daily users. I specialize in the nonprofit world, serving both growth and mission.

I also am a big believer in using AI to maximize creativity and reduce costs.

I wrap these skills within a larger vision, always keeping an eye on long-term strategic planning with a data-driven approach.

Contact me to set up a free consultation. We'll talk and see if we're a good fit. We'll also review a price range for your project and your scheduling needs.

We'll schedule a Zoom meeting to go over your project. We can share examples of what you like, brainstorm ideas, and work out a path forward together.

After the Zoom meeting, I'll create a "Scope of Work" that details the fees, deliverables, process, and timetable. The project begins once the SOW is signed.
